About The Royal Observatory:

The Royal Observatory Greenwich, situated in London, holds a significant place in astronomical history. Established in 1675 by King Charles II, it served as the home of the Prime Meridian, where the world's time zones are measured.

The observatory's historic Flamsteed House houses the first Astronomer Royal's quarters and the renowned Harrison clocks, revolutionizing navigation. Visitors can stand astride the Prime Meridian line, explore interactive exhibits on timekeeping and astronomy, and marvel at celestial wonders in the Peter Harrison Planetarium.

The observatory's role in advancing our understanding of the cosmos and its impact on global navigation make it a treasured institution. Its iconic red time ball still drops daily at 1 p.m., a tradition dating back to 1833 to assist ships in Greenwich reach accurate time readings.
